The Biggest Things in Kashmir today is talking about 5G and teaching coding to kids.

The Biggest Things in Kashmir today is talking about 5G and teaching coding to kids. A few days ago I opened this website of Satyagraha and I noticed two articles, but I did not read them by clicking on the link, just thought about this news story and started working on it. What were the articles, the question is? "What will happen when 5G comes?" and “Is it right to talk about teaching coding to 5-6-year-olds?” As soon as I read these headlines, an incident that happened two days ago started spinning in my mind. I was in the shop of my friend Burhan Qazi located in the Lal Chowk area of Anantnag that day. At the same time, a person came to Burhan's shop to get a new mobile phone. Burhan Qazi, in a hurry, took out a new mobile phone and said, "This is the very latest, 5G phone". Hearing this, the customer smiled and started inquiring about other cheap phones. Later he left the shop without taking the phone. Neither I was surprised nor Burhan Qazi was surprised

The Biggest Things in Kashmir today is talking about 5G and teaching coding to kids.

A few days ago I opened this website of Satyagraha and I noticed two articles, but I did not read them by clicking on the link, just thought about this news story and started working on it.

What were the articles, the question is? "What will happen when 5G comes?" and “Is it right to talk about teaching coding to 5-6-year-olds?”

As soon as I read these headlines, an incident that happened two days ago started spinning in my mind. Neither I was surprised nor Burhan Qazi was surprised by this. By now you might have understood that I am going to talk about the mobile-internet ban going on in Kashmir for more than a year. It must have also been understood that after seeing the above two articles, why I did not read. And also why that customer smiled and left Burhan's shop like this.

On 4 August 2019, a day before the abrogation of Article 370, all communication was suspended in Kashmir which remained closed for several months. Then gradually the means of communication opened up and in January 2020 2G internet services were also opened. Since then, only 2G internet is running in the Kashmir Valley, so obviously, the people of Kashmir feel a bit strange after hearing 5G things. However, the internet shutdown in Kashmir is not a new thing. Statistics show that internet services have been suspended 251 times in Jammu and Kashmir since 2012. According to 'Internet Shutdown', a total of 465 times the internet has been shut down in the whole of India. According to the website, "69 times in 2020, 55 times in 2019 and 65 times in 2018 internet has been shut down in Jammu and Kashmir."

It is important to mention two things here. One is that if the internet remains closed for consecutive months, as is happening in Jammu and Kashmir, this website only counts it once. And secondly, this website does not consider giving 2G instead of 4G to be internet shutdown. Although the people of Kashmir may not believe this, because getting 2G internet in today's time is equal to not getting internet. Now it is clear that due to getting only 2G internet for so long, people in Kashmir are suffering a lot. So here we will try to explain some such things in detail where the damage is being done the most. And the most important thing that comes to mind is the education of the children. Internet has become very important for studies in today's time. From above, from March 2020, ever since the schools have been completely closed after the arrival of the Coronavirus in India, all the education is being done online.

Schools take online classes and children read and write as much as they can. But this online education in Kashmir has also become a headache for parents. “Which online class can be held on 2-G internet, you tell me. Every day I see my nine-year-old son battling, sometimes the teacher's voice gets cut off and sometimes the zoom application closes by itself,” said Sajjad Ahmed Bhat, a resident of the Gagribal area of Srinagar, while speaking to Satyagraha. .When Satyagraha asked him whether he taught coding to his children or not, Sajjad laughed out loud. “I am telling you that they have no place to study, and you are talking about coding,” he says with a laugh. And it is not just Sajjad's condition. The parents of every child are worried at this time in the Kashmir Valley. Gauhar, who lives in south Kashmir's Pulwama district, says he would have sent his children elsewhere, "but these people are still young. I eat this thing, their age was just to learn and if they are left behind now, then they will be left behind for the rest of their life.

Understanding this dilemma of children and their parents, the Jammu and Kashmir Private Schools Association has recently filed a petition in the Supreme Court for 4G to be reinstated.“Children of Jammu and Kashmir have passed two years, first because of school closure for months after 5th August 2019 and now due to Coronavirus. And in such a situation it has become impossible to take online classes on 2G mobile internet,” the petition said, adding that the State Board of Jammu and Kashmir, realizing the difficulties of children, has recently reduced the syllabus by 40 percent for their examinations. Had given. “But where it comes to competitive examinations, no such concession is given.”This petition has not been heard in the Supreme Court yet, but even if it happens, not much is expected to happen. Because in September last year, the central government had told the Parliament that 2G services are enough for education.“The e-learning apps of the Government of India and the Government of Jammu and Kashmir are available on the Internet and can be downloaded over 2G Internet,” GK Reddy, Minister of State, Ministry of Home Affairs, told Parliament.
